All sophomores will report to school at 7:30 a.m. to take the Ohio Graduation Test. All juniors and seniors who have not passed the test are to report at 7:30 a.m. to take the Ohio Graduation Test.  Juniors and seniors who have passed the OGT and all freshmen are to report to school for first period at 10:00 a.m.

Scholarships

Throughout the school year, the Guidance Department is given information on numerous state and national scholarship opportunities and programs. As this information is received, it is posted to our daily student announcements as well as placed in the "scholarship" area of our Guidance Office. Students are encouraged to check the high school announcements daily and check the scholarship area of our office to get applications and additional scholarship information.

Additionally, each spring numerous businesses, organizations and individuals support Stow-Munroe Falls High School's Scholarship Program by donating money to help graduating seniors. Any graduating SMFHS senior who fulfills the eligibility requirements may apply for these scholarships. Below is the list of the local scholarship opportunities for the graduating class of 2010.  Students can view the criteria and print each application by clicking on the links below.  Students should pay close attention to each application deadline in addition to where to turn in completed scholarship applications.

Guidance Announcements- Week of March 8th, 2010

NHS Members! Make sure to attend our meeting on Thursday, March 11, during all lunches in the Guidance Conference Room.

There will be a free practice ACT test at SMFHS on Saturday, March 13th at 9am.  Intersted students must sign-up in Guidance if planning to attend.

Are you a Junior interested in attending a summer college prep program at an Ivy University? See your counselor for details about the Questbridge College Prep Scholarship.

Are you interested in majoring in business or becoming an entrepreneur some day? Then you should attend Ohio Business Week. See your counselor for details.

Are you a female interested in a career in Engineering? See you counselor about attending Goodyear’s Engineering Day for Young Women on Saturday, April 17.

Seniors are you interested in studying Health Careers in college? Then attend Tri-C’s Discovery Night on Wed. March 10th at the Parma Campus. See your Counselor for details.

Sophomores should check with their teachers this week to find their testing room for OGT test next week. This test is part of your graduation requirement and your attendance each day is required.

 

We have another opportunity for females interested in exploring the field of Engineering. See your counselor about the “WOW! That’s Engineering!” event on April 10.

 

The Northcoast Medical Training academy will be here to meet with interested students on Monday, March 22, at 10:00 AM in the Guidance Conference Room. Interested students should fill out a college visit form if planning to attend.

 

Students interested in volunteering at Robinson Memorial Hospital this summer, see your counselor.

Incoming 9th Grade Students for 2010-11

The link below is the Honors Intent Form for incoming 9th grade students for the 2010-11 school year who wish to be placed in our Honors curriculum at Stow-Munroe Falls High School.  Please print the form and follow each step, making sure the form is completed and turned in to the Kimpton Guidance Office by Friday, February 5th.  Students must turn in one form for each subject area in which they would like to be considered for Honors placement.  Also, there is a link to the 2010-11 Program of Studies that is pending Board of Education approval.  The Program of Studies gives detailed information about Stow-Munroe Falls High School and all of it's programs and courses.  The course selection sheet for incoming 9th graders can also be found here if students have misplaced their original copy.

Also, throughout the school year, SMFHS will team up with Huntington Learning Center to offer students an opportunity to improve their skills on the college admission exams ACT & SAT. These practice tests are a great opportunity for students who haven’t taken these tests to understand what they are like. All tests begin at 9:00am at SMFHS and will last until approximately 12:30pm and are absolutely free. Students should check in at the main office doors.  The practice tests and dates are as follows:

Career Programs and the Six District Educational Compact

Every year, students at Stow-Munroe Falls High School take part in Career Programs that enhance their skills and prepare them for prospective careers.  These programs are available to students in grades 10-12 and students are given an orientation to these programs their Sophomore year during scheduling.  For more information, students should see their guidance counselor or visit the Six District Compact website at www.sixdistrict.com.
