30 Year Reunion for 1984, 1985, 1986 Boy's Basketball Teams

The Stow-Munroe Falls High School boys basketball program will be honoring the achievements of three past teams in celebration of their 30th anniversary. The players and coaches from the teams of the classes 1984, 1985 and 1986 will be introduced and recognized before the start of the Stow vs. Hudson basketball game scheduled for 7:30 on Friday, December 19.

Combined, these three teams led by Coach Harold Adkins compiled a 54-6 overall regular season record. These Stow teams were the first teams in Metro League history to win three consecutive league titles.

The 1983-84 Bulldog squad finished their season with a 19-3 overall record and a Metro League Championship. The 1984-85 Stow cagers finished their regular season at 20-0, becoming the first undefeated boys basketball team in Stow history. They were Metro League Champions, Akron Beacon Journal Poll Champions and they finished their campaign ranked third in the Associated Press Division I Ohio final poll. The 1985-86 team followed up that effort by capturing another Metro League title on the way to compiling a 17-5 overall record.

These Bulldog teams from the mid-80’s were rich in basketball talent. Headlining this group of student-athletes was the class of 1985’s Dave Jamerson. During his years at Stow, Jamerson became the school’s all-time leading scorer, averaging over 33 points per game his senior season, which earned him first team All-Ohio honors. Jamerson then went on to play at Ohio Univeristy where he became that school’s all-time leading scorer, scoring 2,336 points in his collegiate career. Jamerson averaged over 31 points per game his senior year at Ohio University, earning him Mid-American Conference Player of the Year honors. Jamerson remains the only Stow basketball player ever to play in the NBA, being drafted 15th in the 1990 NBA draft by Miami and then immediately traded to the Houston Rockets.

Other outstanding Bulldog players from that era to go on to play college basketball are Bill Sellers (Davidson College), Bryan Richetto (Chapman University, Ashland University), Ron Stupi (Findlay University), Jim Weesies (Calvin College) and Tom Jamerson (Ohio University).

Current Stow coach Dave Close is excited about hosting this event. “We believe strongly in honoring the legacy of the teams that have come before us here at Stow,” Close said. “I had an opportunity to see these teams play on a number of occasions and they were truly remarkable. To honor them we want our community to be able to come together to remember and celebrate again the achievements of these players, coaches and teams; and we invite them to do so with us. These men certainly provided a lot of exciting basketball entertainment in their day. They are clearly one of the highlights of Stow’s rich athletic tradition.”

Families, fans and friends are encouraged to attend the recognition ceremony prior to the Stow-Hudson game and to join them in an informal reception after the game at On Tap Grille (4396 Kent Rd. in Stow) to honor these teams and players.
