First two projects united the school:
The entire school collaborated on one giant collage color wheel during the first week of school. Then, each grade began a project inspired by a color concept. Those projects had to be put on hold so we could make pinwheels for the activities on Sept. 10th, but they came out beautifully, and the students learned that color can be symbolic and patriotic. Our red, white, and blue pinwheels and clothing made us feel proud.
Color projects wrapping up:
K- Mondrian designs in the primary colors.
1- Cool paper weavings
2- Warm paper weavings
3- Color blends (above photo)
4- Curious Collages of tonal negative and positive shapes
In the coming weeks, 1st and second grade will weave yarn designs, which will later function as a small tapestry to go under a clay project. Third grade will study the positive messages in Keith Haring's graffiti work and create empowering art works. 4th grade will begin rendering their American Gothic parodies, after learning it's meaningful history.
