* Our school opened in 1939 as Stow Grade School. * It is the oldest building in the district. * The school had additions built in 1966 and 1973. * Currently, we have 14 homerooms that include one team-teaching classroom at grade one. * We have 369 students in Kindergarten through fourth grade. * Highland is rated “Excellent” by the Ohio Department of Education. * We provide hands-on learning and meaningful work for our students. * Highland has Internet access throughout the building and as of the fall of 2009 it offers a computer lab. * Teachers participate in special staff development programs on an annual basis. * All students receive small group guided reading instruction at their instruction level each day. This is accomplished through the use of our special collection of trade books. * Children are provided with music, art, physical education, and library services on a weekly basis. * A guidance counselor visits the school one day per week. * Children with special needs are instructed by a resource room teacher, tutor, and/or a speech and language therapist. * A health aide is at the school every day from 10:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. * The PTA provides a high level of parent involvement at Highland. The association is very supportive of students' academic and social growth and sponsors many school programs. * PTA also supports the students and school through annual projects.

Paper Recycling
There are 2 recycling dumpsters located at the west end of our building. They are available for paper drop-off 24/7/365. Highland earns money for every ton of paper that is deposited in those dumpsters. They accept all kinds of paper but no cardboard please. Thank you for not only helping Highland but also our environment.
