STOW, OHIO—April 8, 2011—A wonderful display of initiative, hard work and scientific inquiry was evident on April 5 during the Second Annual Lakeview Science Fair. Twenty two fifth and sixth grade students presented science fair projects in one of three categories – Life Science, Physical Science and Earth and Space Science.
According to science fair parent coordinator, Sandra Haskell, “The students prepared excellent projects that impressed the judging panel from the community. The science fair enhances educational excellence standards and provides a meaningful experience for the students.”
Awards and t-shirts for all student participants were provided through generous monetary sponsorships from the Stow-Munroe Falls Lions Club and Rotary Club of Stow-Munroe Falls Awards. Office Max in Stow supported the fair by offering discount coupons for the required tri-fold display boards.
A team of five judges from the community evaluated entries and students were required to stand by their projects to answer questions for the judges. Individual classrooms at Lakeview had the opportunity to view the projects during the school day, while parents and guests visited the fair prior to the evening awards program.
Projects were awarded a medal of distinction – Bronze, Silver or Gold - based on judges’ scores. The top eight highest scoring projects received an Achievement trophy.
“Our students did an outstanding job presenting their projects” said Lakeview Principal Kim Lockhart. “The science fair is a great way to encourage interest in science.”
