STOW, OHIO—January 27, 2010—Several athletes from Stow-Munroe Falls High School (SMFHS), along with some of their coaches, were recognized as All Stars and Coaches of the Year during the Touchdown Club of Greater Akron’s 68th Annual Awards Banquet, held January 11. The invitational awards ceremony honored students from school districts throughout Summit and Portage counties.
Athletes and coaches representing SMFHS soccer, volleyball, golf and cross-country received awards during the evening. High school senior Colleen Bonacci and junior Jenna Chilinski were named Volleyball All Stars. Scott Carter was named 2009 Girls Volleyball Coach of the Year.
High school junior Cody Nickson was named 2009 Boys’ Golf Player of the Year. He and senior Connor McCaulley were named Boys Golf All Stars. Ken Miller was named 2009 Boys Golf Coach of the Year.
“I was honored to receive the award,” said Coach Miller, “but it is a testimony to the dedication and accomplishments of this year’s team.”
In boys’ soccer, senior Brett Dillinger was named 2009 Boys’ Soccer All Star. In girls’ soccer, junior Vickie Havas was named 2009 Girls’ All Star.
Junior Katie Betts was named Girls Cross Country All Star.
The Touchdown Club is the oldest sports organization in Summit County. The original goal of the Club was to serve the University of Akron’s football program as a booster club. Since then, the Club has grown to hold two major banquets honoring outstanding male and female high school athletes and coaches in the Summit and Portage areas. The Club also awards scholarships ranging from $100 to $1,000.
