STOW, OHIO—January 21, 2010—Kindergarten schedules for the 2010-2011 school year will remain the same for Stow-Munroe Falls City School District (SMFCSD) students. Parents of students entering kindergarten will have the option to enroll students in half-day classes at no cost or full-day with tuition.
Kindergarten registration will be held Thursday, April 8 at 7 pm at Stow-Munroe Falls High School. Detailed information, including a downloadable registration packet, is available on the District website, www.smfschools.org, under parent information.
Students must be five years old on or before September 30 to enroll for kindergarten classes. (The age requirement for the 2011-2012 school year will be at least five years old on or before August 1.)
In accordance with the Ohio Revised Code, beginning in 2010-2011, all school districts will provide all-day, every-day kindergarten services to all students. Districts which would incur funding or space constraints have the opportunity to apply for a one-year waiver. The SMFCSD will apply for the waiver for the 2010-2011 school year.
“Although our District believes in the philosophy of all-day kindergarten, we have decided to apply for the one year Ohio Department of Education waiver due to current financial constraints,” said Karen Moore, Director of Curriculum and Instruction. “The District intends to provide all-day kindergarten services for all students entering kindergarten for the 2011-2012 school year.”
